Homeowner's Insurance
This insurance covers replacement costs for damages caused by fire, wind or other disaster that might affect the value of the property. Typically, the insurance also includes personal liability and theft coverage.

Flood or Insurance
Additional hazard insurance coverage that is required for homes located in a designated flood zone as established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). An appraiser, inspector, or your realtor can let you know if a property resides in a hazard zone.

Conventional Loans > Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI)
Insurance required for conventional mortgage loans when the borrower's down payment on the house is less than 20 percent of the loan value. The insurance amount is based on the actual down payment and credit of the borrower.

FHA Gov't Loans > Mortgage Insurance Premium (MIP)
The FHA insurance program works a little different than insurance for conventional loans. FHA requires an up-front mortgage insurance fee of 2.25% of the loan amount. This Up-front fee is financed into your overall loan amount. Then you pay a monthly fee of .55% of the outstanding loan amount. If you refinance or sell your home within 3 years, your up-front mortgage insurance fee is prorated and you will receive a rebate. 

VA Loans > Up-Front Funding Fee
The VA does not actually call their fee an insurance fee but it is non the less insurance. The VA funding fee (2.15% of the loan amount) can be financed into your loan just as FHA but is not refundable. One of the beautiful aspects of a VA loan is you do not pay any monthly mortgage insurance.

Title Insurance
This policy protects both the buyer and lender by insuring a clear chain of title. (In other words, it insures that that the person who sells the house has the legal right to do so.)
